Sebastião Salgado - My Street Photography Inspiration
Street photography is more than just a hobby for me; it’s how I see the world. It’s not just about the technical aspects; it’s about capturing the raw essence of life, the small beauties that we often miss when we’re too caught up in our daily routines.
When I think of legendary black and white photographers, Sebastião Salgado is at the top of my list. His work has a magical way of transcending the frame, pulling you into stories that feel both intimate and universal. What inspires me most is his ability to capture emotion without overwhelming it. The perfect balance of light and shadow in his monochrome photography reminds me that sometimes, simplicity is the most powerful tool. (Or is it contrast?)
This photo was inspired by that philosophy. The rain wasn’t planned—it never is in street photography—but that’s the beauty of it. We’re at the mercy of capturing life in its purest form. Salgado’s approach has taught me to embrace unpredictability, to see the potential in fleeting moments, and to wait patiently for them to unfold. To use the camera as a painter would their canvas…just FASTER!
Now it’s your turn. Who inspires your street photography? Share your thoughts in the comments or tag me on Instagram. I’d love to see how you see the world. Thanks for reading, everyone. Get out there and make something beautiful!
